Time Management in High School

Hearing comments like time is on your side and that you have all the time in the world make you just little bit cranky. These remarks usually don’t do any good when you have a paper due tomorrow. With all the home works you haven’t finished yet, you ask yourself how you are going to make it alive tomorrow. Time is running out by the second.

Your search for an effective time management ends here. Young as you are learning time management in high school can help you keep up with school requirements and still have time to squeeze in your socialization. An effective time management in high school doesn’t mean that you’ll be studying all the time. The time that you save will allow you to spend time doing things that you like.

Here are some simple yet effective time management in high school:

Track your time
. Be aware with what you do with your time. Specially in studying, know how much time you spent in looking for your books, doodling on your notes, getting snacks, and other rituals that you do before and while doing your assignments. You can reduce the amount of time in studying by cutting back on activities that distracts you from studying. For example, it might usually take you 14 minutes to look for your notes, 10 minutes to fix a snack, 5 minutes to refill your drinks, 2 minutes to look for your pen, 2 minutes to boot your computer, 5 minutes to look for paper to print. All in all, you just spent 38 minutes of studying time doing other things. An effective time management will allow you to reduce the 38 minutes of “studying” time by organizing your things around.

Plan your studying time. By this time, you already know how many minutes you are wasting doing your studying rituals. You can save time by planning for the things you will regularly need. If you need to have a snack while studying and your computer takes time to reboot, turn on your computer first then fix your snack while your computer is rebooting.  Also, if you regularly make trips to refill your drinks, then probably you might want to get a pitcher handy beside your studying area to save you the trips.

Take short breaks. Having a strategic pause in between your studying time saves you time by refreshing your mind. Continues studying for hours can be tiring. Stop for a while and stretch to relieve some aches in your body. It also prevents your mind from lagging. You might end up starring the ceiling for a long time while waiting for a new idea to pop in. Setting breaks such as 5 minutes of pause for every hour you put in studying can help you recognize new ideas much faster. You might want to walk around the room in search for inspirations. Being specific about your study breaks prevent you from taking too much time away from studying. It also serves as a preventive measure against distractions.
