If I were to list the things that I consider valuable in my life, I would certainly consider time as one of my priorities. There is quite a bit of truth to the common cliché that ”time is gold.” It is rather simple yet it conveys a great meaning that all people in the world, regardless of race and belief would understand and agree upon. Time, when properly utilized, can make every person happier and more successful. Wasted time can cause just the opposite.

Time management is a skill that everyone should master if she or he is planning to climb the ladder of success. Successful people tend to have an increased ability manage their time effectively and to use it wisely in order to accomplish their goals. Time management is the ability to organize and follow everyday activities in a manner that could make a person allocate ample time for everything that has to be attended to. Effective people in different walks of life have realized the secrets of time management and used it to propel their careers and improve their personal lives. The skill can work wonders in the life of every person – a stress-free and a balanced life and the ability to take control of your activities and work effectively under pressure are just few of the great effects of effective time management.

Time management should not be equated with the ability to multitask and dive head first into a number of activities at one time. Time management is actually the ability to achieve results by concentrating your energy and efforts on those activities that will lead you to the accomplishment of your goals in the least possible time. Many people are familiar with the idea of time management. Most people would also like to improve their time management skills in order to advance their careers and their personal lives. Many of the people who don’t get ahead of life, however intelligent and equipped they are in their careers, are procrastinators.

Procrastinating is the bad habit of waiting for work to pile up before you start working on each of them. Procrastinators usually end up stressing themselves out more in the long run by only giving themselves a small window of time in which to complete tasks. Although they claim to be able to work well under pressure, the quality of their work will often suffer.

Do you find yourself in a flurry of activities and ending up not accomplishing much? Do you feel the need to be more productive and more organized? Do you find yourself being stressed out or burnt out with all the activities you have to accomplish per day?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you must be in need of some time management tips and tricks. Below are some effective time management exercises that you can master so you will be able to achieve much more in the same number of hours per day, or have the same achievement in a fewer number of hours. These time management exercises are very easy to follow. All that is needed is the discipline, commitment, and consistency to practice them every day.

The first of the time management exercises is to identify and control time wasters. It is very helpful to jot down all the time consuming activities that you have per day. These can include homework, office work, eating, watching TV, talking on the phone, sleeping or napping, surfing the web, playing games, or just plain lounging. Next step is to write down the amount of time you should spend per activity per day or week. You can then make a chart to check how much time you actually spend per activity as compared to the amount of time you should spend for that activity. You may be surprised that you spend so much time doing things that are considered to be unproductive. Usually, homework or office work comes last. Now you certainly deserve to have some down time, but in order to have a more productive day, you need to have balance as well.

One simple step to control and avoid time wasters is to close your door. Closing your office door minimizes distractions and interruptions. For telephone calls, as much as possible, utilize your voice mail or have someone take down messages while you are doing something important. You can then return the calls during a time that is more convenient for you.

To be able to successfully master the skills of time management, it is advisable to seek others for help as well. Get your friends or your family involved as either a supporter or even a friendly competitor as you can make a game out of controlling time wasting activities. You can also have a reward system. Arrange for a reward such as a free lunch or dinner for the winner of time-saving activities. You can even have a party once you have mastered the art of managing your time. It is surely something to celebrate.

These time management exercises will surely be a great help in developing the skills and discipline you need to overcome time wasting activities and focus on managing your activities more effectively. It truly helps to have other people involved in this endeavor so that you can stay more focused and have more support in achieving your goals.

Time can be your greatest friend or your greatest enemy. Use it wisely and it will get you exactly what you want in life. Do what needs to be done at the right time and you will achieve great success. With wise use of time, there isn’t an unreachable star and an immovable mountain. What it only takes for time to be your friend is to execute your goal. Do the things that are deemed necessary at the moment. Time can also be your adversary. Let it pass by doing nothing and you cannot bring it back. You’ll find yourself wishing for a time machine to bring back the lost time, but this can never happen in real life. A lost time can never be restored like we what we usually see in movies.

Learning time management skills could help us make friends with time. Once we have taken a good grip on how to manage our time well, beautiful things can happen to us. We could avoid the stress of having to beat deadlines, the pressure of having to do everything that needs to be done on time. When time management skills are acquired and learned by any person it would be a good beginning of his or her career and the start of a rewarding personal life.

We hear testimonies from real people who have become successful in their careers because of their skill in managing their time. We read books and magazines that impart the value of time management skills and teach us how to acquire these skills. But most of the time, we still find ourselves rushing, cramming, and becoming too stressed to enjoy other things in life. Most of the time, we are too overworked to still work. This should not be the case. There is something that we can do to avoid this dilemma- make time your greatest friend.

These are the ways on how to make time your greatest friend: One, do not procrastinate. Procrastination is the greatest enemy of time. Prioritize your goals; do not wait for tomorrow to fulfill the duties that you can do today. Practice delaying of gratification. When you feel like wandering around or staring blankly at the universe while your work piles up, stand and make a choice to finish your work first and do what you feel like doing when you are done working.

Make a conscious effort to do things that will contribute to the success of your goals; avoid wasting your time with the activities that would take much of your time but won’t help you achieve your dreams. Learn to schedule and follow your schedule as much as possible. Doing this will lessen the chance that you do the things that would waste your time.

The most important thing is your ability to set personal goals. A person who has no goals in life, are likely to do unimportant things and waste much of his or her time. Personal goals could motivate a person to be always on the go, to reach the finish line before maneuvering into a direction that is way far from the direction of his or her goal.

Are you the type who always delays your tasks? Do you find yourself deliberately putting off those urgent things that need to be done? Are you the typical crammer who waits until the last minute before beginning an important task?

Books and resources on time management tips and productivity define procrastination as the habit of putting off the things that you need to do despite their urgency. This usually leads to tasks being half-done or haphazardly done. More importantly if you delay or put off doing your tasks and consequently cram, it inevitably results to stress. Procrastination is the enemy of time management. Here are some time management tips to get rid of the procrastinator in you.

List down the things you need to do and number them according to their urgency. Try to determine how much time you will need to accomplish every single task that you have listed down so that you can budget the time that you have in your day. Know which of the tasks are similar or can be done simultaneously. Let say, you promised to bake brownies for the whole class while you’re also hosting a dinner for your bosses at home. Preparations for these two tasks need not be done separately. Prepare a grocery list that will cover everything that you need for both tasks. Make sure that you list everything down as extra trips to the supermarket can ruin your schedule.

Set deadlines. Most of the time people procrastinate on the tasks that they do not want to do in favor of those which are easy to accomplish or those that they are used to doing. Thus it is important to keep tab on when you need to have the tasks accomplished and write them down in a planner. Work your way through your calendar backwards, starting from the date of your deadline. Write down the things that you need to do to accomplish a particular task so that you can do the dreaded task slowly but surely and find yourself right at the finish line on time and even earlier than the deadline.

Post reminders of your tasks and things to do on your corkboards or even your dresser or your bathroom mirror or perhaps your refrigerator, especially if you are not the type who opens your diary of planner at the end of the day. Having these constant reminders of the things you need to do will stimulate you to include these tasks or at least parts of it, into the activities that you plan on doing for the next day. Before going to bed make a written, if not a mental assessment of how your day went and how time was spent.

After following all these time management tips, and you find yourself liberated from those dreaded tasks, reward yourself. If you find that you’ve had your tasks accomplished ahead of time, then this is good news and is definitely a reason to celebrate! Treat yourself to a good soak in the tub, a delicious meal or a good book. Relax! Accomplishing the work that you need to do ahead of time simply means that you now have extra time to waste in your hands.

Do you like playing games? Do you want to manage your time effectively? If your answers to these questions is yes, then you need to try free time management games to help you manage your time more effectively.

Managing time is quite a complicated task. You are to set your goals, make a daily planner, and so on. If you think that you have done this effectively, you can try your time management skills with free time management games. Time management games lets you play a character that you have to use to run a business. This is the most common form of time management games.

Time management games started out years ago with a SNES game, Harvest Moon. In this game, you will take the role of a farmer. Your goal here is to plant seeds, make them grow and harvest them. You can also raise chickens, feed them, let those lay eggs, and incubate the eggs to get a new chick, or sell the eggs. You can even raise cows and sheep. You need to feed them. With cows, you can milk them and get them pregnant to get more cows. You can sell their milk, store it for yourself or turn them to cheese, which you could eat or sell. With a sheep, you can simply shave them to get wool in which you could sell. You can do all these in one day. The hard part is that there is a limited amount of time and your stamina gets drained for every action you make. So you need to manage your time so that you can do all these things in a day.

Harvest Moon gained immense popularity that new games that imitate the Harvest Moon’s gameplay have raised to the competition. Currently, there are a few free time management games that you can play to work on your time management skills. Here are some of them:

Diner Dash

Diner Dash is a time management game that lets you control your very own restaurant. You take the role of Flo. Flo is a newbie at restaurant management. The problem here is that you get to do every task on the restaurant yourself. You will need to serve your guests, seat them, take their orders, make the food, serve the food to them, get their payment and bus the tables for the next customers. The competition rises with more customers waiting to be served and color multiplier. The color multiplier lets you double the points you earn by matching the customer’s shirt color with the color of the seats. With more customers in line, you’ll have trouble giving them a table, and serving them. They might actually get angry and leave before you can serve them. The key here is to do the most immediate goal for the customers.

Cake Mania

In Cake Mania, you take the role of Jill as she tries to serve her customers with pastries. In this game, you give the customers a menu, then they’ll tell you what they want, then you go to the oven and bake the cake. The cake’s shape must be the shape that the customer wants. As you gain profits, you can enhance your workstation. You can buy more ovens, faster frosting stations, a TV to distract the customers, a platter to put a cake on, and so on.

Time management games are one of the most entertaining genre of games that will test your time management skills to the fullest.

Push kids to take look at the diagram every morning and prepare ahead of time. For example, if ever Monday is camping day they can pack their bag and any materials to be brought. As kids learn essential time principles like months and days, provide for them a calendar to put on the wall in their room. These kids may cross out the days until particular events like school outings or the end of the school year. They can as well utilize a calendar to prepare for every single day together with their tasks after school.

Hearing comments like time is on your side and that you have all the time in the world make you just little bit cranky. These remarks usually don’t do any good when you have a paper due tomorrow. With all the home works you haven’t finished yet, you ask yourself how you are going to make it alive tomorrow. Time is running out by the second.

Your search for an effective time management ends here. Young as you are learning time management in high school can help you keep up with school requirements and still have time to squeeze in your socialization. An effective time management in high school doesn’t mean that you’ll be studying all the time. The time that you save will allow you to spend time doing things that you like.

Here are some simple yet effective time management in high school:

Track your time. Be aware with what you do with your time. Specially in studying, know how much time you spent in looking for your books, doodling on your notes, getting snacks, and other rituals that you do before and while doing your assignments. You can reduce the amount of time in studying by cutting back on activities that distracts you from studying. For example, it might usually take you 14 minutes to look for your notes, 10 minutes to fix a snack, 5 minutes to refill your drinks, 2 minutes to look for your pen, 2 minutes to boot your computer, 5 minutes to look for paper to print. All in all, you just spent 38 minutes of studying time doing other things. An effective time management will allow you to reduce the 38 minutes of “studying” time by organizing your things around.

Plan your studying time. By this time, you already know how many minutes you are wasting doing your studying rituals. You can save time by planning for the things you will regularly need. If you need to have a snack while studying and your computer takes time to reboot, turn on your computer first then fix your snack while your computer is rebooting. Also, if you regularly make trips to refill your drinks, then probably you might want to get a pitcher handy beside your studying area to save you the trips.

Take short breaks. Having a strategic pause in between your studying time saves you time by refreshing your mind. Continues studying for hours can be tiring. Stop for a while and stretch to relieve some aches in your body. It also prevents your mind from lagging. You might end up starring the ceiling for a long time while waiting for a new idea to pop in. Setting breaks such as 5 minutes of pause for every hour you put in studying can help you recognize new ideas much faster. You might want to walk around the room in search for inspirations. Being specific about your study breaks prevent you from taking too much time away from studying. It also serves as a preventive measure against distractions.

How many times have you heard people say “if only I have time”? Having not enough time is the most common excuse of not committing to a goal or in making changes. You might need to start an exercise program to lose weight or have wanted to join a dance class, but you always find yourself saying that you don’t have the time to do those things. Stop making an excuse and start finding time to do what you love or needed to do.

Time flies whether we enjoy it or not. Most people spent a huge time in doing unimportant things. Imagine how many hours you spent in being stuck in traffic or in a line doing nothing but stare at people. These are only some time wasters which are better spent on doing things. The next time you are caught in a traffic, find a way to make use of you time efficiently. Instead of stressing yourself out in the midst of the traffic, you can listen to an audio book or get a head start by planning your day. These are only some of examples of how you can find more time for yourself.

A time management chart is an accountability tool for people who want to know where their time went. It is a weekly schedule where they can record the activities they did on a particular time. It’s like having a diary, but instead of recording your memories, record the amount of time doing a particular activity. You can use a format similar to a weekly planner wherein the times are arranged in rows and the days are in columns. Or you can simply make your own. Every day, for a week, summarize your records. Determine how much time you spent doing things like watching TV, partying, eating, reading magazines, doing your work, having a coffee. So at the end of the week you’ll be able to know how much time you averagely spend doing these different activities. You might be shock to know how much time you spent on watching television shows.

You can get a good picture on how productive you are in spending your time with a time management chart. This can increase your awareness on how many hours you waste on activities that are not really important. You might be telling people that you don’t have time to exercise but unaware that you spend an average of 4 hours watching TV. With awareness, you can now start to change things. You’ll be able to find the time you needed to accommodate the things you have always wanted to do.

You can’t stop time from flying, but you can set a path where your time flies into. The time management chart can help you find more time, just when you think you don’t have enough it. Imagine your life doing the things that you have dreaming to do. So the next time you find yourself saying that you don’t have time, chances are that you are only unaware that you do have the time.

For years, people have been fascinated with the meaning of time management. Fascinated because although time management is actually a simple concept, but one that most people find hard to follow. It is important to understand the proper meaning of time management for a person to make good use of his time so he can accomplish his goals and tasks.

Time management is the general term that refers to the many ways and means that people use to properly allocate their time. This time usage is in relation to effectively completing projects however big or small it may be. Time management also refers to the effective use of various resources to accomplish different goals on time and satisfactorily.

When people try to define the meaning of time management, various time management tools also come to mind. These can be as simple as organizers, notebooks, clocks and wristwatches. The organizers and notebooks are used to jot down or list the projects and tasks that one has to accomplish with a given set of deadlines.

Most often, the term time management refers to personal time management, that is, the effective use of one’s time to accomplish his own pre-set tasks. In this aspect, people should learn to value time as they value money. Basically, we spend time, save time and invest time. We spend time so we can finish certain projects and jobs. We save time so we can better allocate our time and resources to finish future tasks. And we invest time on certain projects that we know we will benefit in the future and contribute to our improvement.

The proper usage of time is actually relative to the person who uses it. When one person does nothing but listen to music, people around him may argue that he is wasting his time on this unnecessary leisure when he could be doing more important things. But if the person listening to the music is a songwriter, then he might actually be making good use of his time because he is doing a form of research or searching for inspiration to help him with his future songwriting projects. This is the reason why people need better grasp of the meaning of time management so they will know when they are using their time wisely or just spending it wantonly.

To some people, time management is a form of discipline which they need to learn to become more effective individuals. To others, it is nothing more that just knowing one’s priorities and allotting his time for the completion of these important tasks. No matter how one looks at time management, it all boils down to the fact that everyone must make effective use of their time if they want to really accomplish their goals and come up with quality outputs.

If you feel confused on the meaning of time management and what actually constitutes proper usage of time, you don’t need to worry. You don’t need the latest software and gadgets that promise you more productivity and effective time management. As with other things, the answer can be very simple. Sometimes just having a task list is all that one needs to prioritize his goals. You probably have made use of a task list. A grocery list is a form of a task list because you list down all the important things that you need to buy first. Just having a list can help solve your time management problems.
